Be the good newsWhat is good news? For the hungry it's food. For the thirsty, a drink. For a sick old woman, perhaps it's a kind visitor. For a prisoner, maybe it's someone who cares enough to simply come. People have needs. Those who bring help are good news. When we take the time to care about people in need, we quickly become aware that there is something wrong in the world. People make harmful choices that affect many. It's not like we don't know this from personal experience. We all have this tendency to damage or even destroy some of the good things in our lives. For simplicity's sake, we call this tendency sin. What would really be Good News is if the world could be rid of sin! Rewind 2,000 years and here is the Good News. Everywhere Jesus went He was involved in the well being of those around Him. He invested and gave His entire life to people, healing them, teaching them, and loving them. This man who claimed to be God in the flesh, told us that He didn't come to condemn us but to save us from sin. We believe Him. We'd rather not only be outspoken fans of His, but instead be His followers, doing what He did. So what did Jesus command His followers to do? He says, "love one another; as I have loved you, so that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." For this reason, we've made a committment to be intimately involved in the well being of those around us, loving them without any judgement. We will not simply show up to tell them "good news" and leave them in need, returning to our nice lives. Instead, we will become the good news, doing as Jesus did. We are here to help you. We believe that laying down our lives to follow Christ causes His love to spread, encouraging others to follow Him. That's why He Is the Good News!
